Physics Department celebrates its 2025 graduates

On 17 October 2025, the Department of Physics at TU Darmstadt honoured its graduates in a festive ceremony in the Maschinenhaus.

A total of 59 Bachelor's, 50 Master's and 44 Doctoral graduates were recognised for their successful degrees – a special moment marked by a festive atmosphere, inspiring speeches and musical highlights.

Ceremonial opening and welcoming remarks

The event was opened by the dean of the department, Prof. Dr. Thomas Halfmann. In her subsequent address, Prof. Dr. Franziska Lang, Vice President for Academic Careers, praised the achievements of the graduates and emphasised the importance of scientific curiosity and critical thinking for a sustainable future.

Gerhard Herzberg Society Awards

A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the awards by the alumni association ‘Gerhard Herzberg Society,’ presented by Prof. Dr. Michael Vogel, who also gave a speech on behalf of the society.

Musical highlights

Lisa Angelina Hennige provided the musical accompaniment, enriching the programme with her virtuoso violin playing of works by Arcangelo Corelli and Johann Sebastian Bach and lending the ceremony a special atmosphere.

After the dean's ceremonial tribute to the graduates, the department invited guests to enjoy refreshments and snacks – an opportunity for conversation, reminiscing and looking ahead to new scientific paths.
